Compass
Before you buy anything, understand the work.
Compass is a guided workflow review and the natural place to start. It's how we learn what's actually happening, and how you get a clear-eyed view of your own operation.
Field notes, taken on site, this is where the pen actually moves.
The review
What happens during Compass
Six steps
01
Walk through a normal day
Not the version in the handbook. We shadow the actual routine, the workarounds, the double-checks, the waiting.
02
Ask pointed questions
Why this step? What happens when it's skipped? Who gets called when it breaks? What would you fix first if you had a free afternoon?
03
Map the current workflow
One clear picture of how work moves today, from first request to finished, including the parts that only live in someone's head.
04
Identify friction, duplication, delays and blind spots
Duplicate data entry, manual handoffs, and the places where nobody can see status without asking someone.
05
Prioritize the opportunities
Sorted by effort against relief, so you know what's worth doing next week versus next quarter.
06
Return a practical recommendation
Plain language, specific next steps, and an honest read on what should be left alone for now.
Deliverables
What you walk away with
Written down, in language you can hand to someone else.
- A map of your current workflow, including the informal steps.
- A short list of friction points, with where each one costs you.
- Prioritized opportunities, ordered by effort and relief.
- A practical recommendation, what to change, in what order, and what to leave alone.
No strings
Compass stands on its own.
Plenty of teams take the recommendation and handle it internally, or hand it to someone they already trust. That’s a fine outcome. We don’t hold the findings hostage to a build, and we won’t manufacture a project that isn’t there. There is no obligation to implement anything.
If it does make sense to keep going, our Solutions work picks up exactly where Compass left off, no rediscovery, no starting over.
The goal is to make the business work better.
See how we workBefore we start
What we'll ask you for
- An hour or two of time from the people who actually do the work, not just the person who signs off on it.
- Honest answers, including about the workarounds nobody's proud of.
- Access to see the workflow as it runs, a screen share, a walk-through, or a seat at the desk.
Setting expectations
What it is not
- It's not a sales pitch disguised as a review, we're not building the recommendation to require our own follow-on work.
- It's not a software audit or a security assessment.
- It's not a guess. Everything in the recommendation traces back to something we actually saw.
Compass is a conversation, not a contract.
